The Good Shepherd - a poem by Mark Mariner
This poem is has been set to music using the traditional tune called "SLANE" mostly commonly paired with "Be Thou My Vision"
My Shepherd stands firm, the hireling flees
In love, He remains though wolves compass me
Through death, he contends with our dreaded foe
Where’er He leads me will I gladly go.
His love is so great; forever unites
I rest in the fold safe through the dark night
I know His sweet voice when He calls my name
My Good Shepherd’s love is ever the same
In death, He triumphs and grants victory
This work he does by His Father’s decree
He lays down His life, ending all my strife
His death grants to me my eternal life
One day we’ll bow down before His great throne
And cast down all crowns for they are His own
All will behold Him in His majesty
worshiping ever for eternity
